Low T Drugs Causing Deadly Side Effects

A recent phenomenon in the medical community is the diagnosis of “Low T” and the advent of numerous Low T (short for Low Testosterone) medications like Androgel, Androderm, and Axiron. These drugs are marketed exclusively to men who may have seen a decline in their testosterone production. What many men do not know that studies have shown that these prescription testosterone drugs may actually double the risk of suffering a heart attack and/or deep vein thrombosis.

If the significantly higher risk of suffering a heart attack was not bad enough, it turns out that many manufacturers of these Low T drugs may have known about the health risks and failed to warn patients.

Desire for Profit May Have Overshadowed Need for Improved Safety

Drug makers spent over $100 million advertising Low T drugs to the male community, according to the New York Times. Men who had low energy, moodiness, sluggishness, and/or a low sex drive were told to contact their doctors and ask about testosterone prescription drugs like Androderm, Axiron, Testim, Androgel, and others.

Unfortunately, what the commercials failed to tell men across the country was that these drugs carried an extremely high risk of suffering a heart attack after taking the medication. Many patients are experiencing side effects including stroke, deep vein thrombosis, and other harmful injuries.

Studies Show the Serious Risks of Low T Drugs

The Journal of the American Medical Association discovered that cardiovascular injuries in men who were prescribed Low T drugs were 30 percent higher when compared to men not taking testosterone drugs. Another study, conducted by researchers at UCLA, found even more disturbing data. The UCLA researchers discovered that men ages 65 and older actually doubled their risk of suffering a potentially-deadly heart attack within 90 days of taking a Low T drug. The UCLA study included thousands of participants featuring men from different age spectrums.

You or a Loved One May Want to Get Involved in Low T Litigation

There is currently multidistrict litigation involving men who have suffered serious side effects associated with Low T usage. Multidistrict litigation (aka MDL) basically means that the numerous lawsuits filed in federal courts across the country will be consolidated and handled by a judge in a single federal court. For Low T cases, the judge assigned to the MDL is in the Northern District of Illinois.
