Dog Attack Kills 21-Year-Old In Georgia

A deadly dog attack claimed the life of a 21-year-old Georgia woman recently. According to reports, it happened on Ira Road where the victim was attacked and killed. Two dogs were removed from the owner’s home. The 55-year-old dog owner was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter.
According to arrest warrants, the dog’s owner did “cause the death of another human without any intention to do so.” The arrest warrants say that the dog owner is the primary owner and responsible party for two dogs. Further, the warrants state the dogs escaped their property while they were under the control of the owner and attacked the victim who was bitten multiple times in the face and torso. According to his neighbors, the dogs have a history of aggression.
Reports from Animal Control show that the same owner has been implicated in dog bite attacks several times before this fatal one. The most recent case took place within the last year. In 2023, an Augusta man says he was jogging when four dogs approached and attacked him. According to the report, two of the dogs bit the jogger. One dog was taken away by animal control, along with another dog. The report states that seven puppies were also surrendered.
In 2020, there was another bite case involving a 12-year-old who was bitten on the leg. The report states that the owner agreed to sign the dog over knowing it would be euthanized for a bite case.
Another report, this time from 2019, also lists the same owner. According to the report, the dog bit someone at Family Dollar. The report says that the owner “who I remembered dealing with last time this specific dog named Gator bit a person just last year. This is the third known bite case involving this dog named Gator. It will be our recommendation to have the dog euthanized.”
Dog bite lawsuits in Georgia
The family of the victim could file a wrongful death lawsuit against the dog’s owner. In this case, it would be easy for the plaintiffs to establish that the dog owner knew that the dog was vicious beforehand. Indeed, it seems that almost every dog this particular owner has ever owned is vicious to some degree.
Plaintiffs in dog bite lawsuits need to establish that the defendant knew that their dog was aggressive or vicious prior to the actual bite occurring. In this case, the plaintiffs would have neighbors to testify on their behalf that the owner knew that the dogs were aggressive, received complaints about the dogs, and allowed the dogs to roam free when they attacked an unsuspecting person and killed them.
